New opponent for Crater Bowl
III
June 24,
2008
Due to the fact that the Cedar Valley Vikings backed out of playing the Eagles
this weekend--and much thanks to the help of the Dakota Lawdawgs--Manson (0-1)
will now play the Midwest Titans (1-0) for Crater Bowl III; last year during
Week #3, the Eagles lost to the Titans, 0-21.
Can you hear the fiddle
play? We didn't!
An open note for any
and all
June 24,
2008
Last season--as most of you know--the Eagles didn't have the best record--not
because we "sucked" but rather after losing (or tying) the first several games
by close margins, "fair-weathered players" suddenly disappeared and a roster of
46 dropped to 25. Then, tragedy struck in several forms: first, starting OT
Kevin Wood and Special Teams Coach Chris Wood lost their father,
Doug, in a freak storm spotting accident. Second, the heavy rainfall of last
August wiped out starting OT Joe Gilbert's house. Third, several
season-ending injuries--coupled with a few other players who were abducted by
UFO's--whittled the roster down to 18. But still the Manson
Eagles played and showed up to the last three games with only 18 players not
only ready to play, but also to fulfill their obligation as an organization.
No, we don't want a pat on the back for doing what we were supposed to do, just
reminding everyone what kind of team and organization we are. As the saying
goes, "Do you want some cheese with that wine?"
Eagles lose to Lightning in
season opener
Down 14-0 at halftime,
Manson stumbles in second half
June 22,
2008
The Manson Eagles lost their 2008 season opener to the Iowa Lightning, 42-6, in
a contest held in Bondurant, IA. The Eagles dug themselves into a quick hole by
allowing two Lightning scores in the first five minutes of the game but then
stiffened on both offense and defense--highlighted by a goal line stand with :05
seconds left in the 1st Half. The offense--fluid at times but always under the
gun by an athletic Lightning defense--botched a field goal attempt with a bad
snap and killed two other drives with fumbles.
Entering the 2nd half down only 14-0, the Eagles faltered on their first drive
by throwing an interception that was returned for a Lighting touchdown that put
them up 21-0. From that point on, the depth and speed of the Lightning proved
fatal as they jumped out to a 35-0 lead before Manson scored on a 2-yard run by
running back Leon Williams. The Eagles now prepare to rebound in their
home opener against the Cedar Valley Vikings on June 28th as part of the
"Greater Crater Days" celebration.

Honors which is a huge accomplishment in the competitive Mid-America Football
League! Both Sowle and Seltz are second-year players and were mainstays for the
Eagles during their 2007 campaign: Seltz anchored the offensive line while also
subbing in at defensive end while Sowle roamed the defensive backfield and also
returned kickoffs. Congrats to both players!

August 26,

20 members of the Manson Eagles made
the 3+ hour trip to take on the Winona-LaCrosse Roughriders and with many
players going both ways, gave the Roughriders a battle until the end. Down 0-7
with a minute left in the first half, Winona-LaCrosse managed to score just
before the end of the half to make the score 0-14. During the second half the
Eagles had several drives stalled inside the Roughrider's red zone and despite
the Eagles' defense collecting 6 turnovers (3 interceptions, 3 fumbles), the
final score ended up 0-21. The Eagles would like to thank the Roughriders for
the level of class and respect they played with throughout the game.

23-6; for most of the first half the Maulers led, 13-6, and just before halftime
Minnesota kicked a field goal to make it 16-6. Check out photos from the game

Thursday practice cancelled;

However, next Tuesday and Thursday practice will resume and we will hit it as
hard as we did during the week we played Iowa. It is suggested that you

Can you hear the fiddle
play? We didn't!
An open note for any and
all
June 24, 2008
Last season--as most of you know--the Eagles didn't have the best record--not
because we "sucked" but rather after losing (or tying) the first several games
by close margins, "fair-weathered players" suddenly disappeared and a roster of
46 dropped to 25. Then, tragedy struck in several forms: first,
starting OT Kevin Wood and Special Teams Coach Chris Wood lost
their father, Doug, in a freak storm spotting accident. Second, the heavy
rainfall of last August wiped out starting OT Joe Gilbert's house.
Third, several season-ending injuries--coupled with a few other players who were
abducted by UFO's--whittled the roster down to 18. But still
the Manson Eagles played and showed up to the last three games with only 18
players not only ready to play, but also to fulfill their obligation as an
organization. No, we don't want a pat on the back for doing what we were
supposed to do, just reminding everyone what kind of team and organization we
are. As the saying goes, "Do you want some cheese with that wine?"
Eagles lose to Lightning in
season opener
Down 14-0 at halftime,
Manson stumbles in second half
June 22, 2008
The Manson Eagles lost their 2008 season opener to the Iowa Lightning, 42-6, in
a contest held in Bondurant, IA. The Eagles dug themselves into a quick
hole by allowing two Lightning scores in the first five minutes of the game but
then stiffened on both offense and defense--highlighted by a goal line stand
with :05 seconds left in the 1st Half. The offense--fluid at times but
always under the gun by an athletic Lightning defense--botched a field goal
attempt with a bad snap and killed two other drives with fumbles.
Entering
the 2nd half down only 14-0, the Eagles faltered on their first drive by
throwing an interception that was returned for a Lighting touchdown that put
them up 21-0. From that point on, the depth and speed of the Lightning
proved fatal as they jumped out to a 35-0 lead before Manson scored on a 2-yard
run by running back Leon Williams. The Eagles now prepare to rebound
in their home opener against the Cedar Valley Vikings on June 28th
as part of the "Greater Crater Days" celebration.
